Avalara
Automated sales tax, VAT, and indirect tax compliance across 190+ countries.
Overview
Avalara automates the full indirect tax cycle: rate determination, returns preparation, filing, and remittance. The platform covers sales and use tax across all US states, VAT and GST in more than 190 countries, excise duties, property tax, and e-invoicing mandates. A dedicated partner programme welcomes accounting firms that want to add tax compliance services for their clients.
When a client's system processes a transaction, Avalara assigns the correct rate using jurisdiction rules updated in real time. Exemption certificates are stored and validated digitally, removing the manual document chase before an audit. The 1099 and W-9 module covers IRS e-filing, which is useful for firms managing contractor-heavy clients.
Avalara works with over 1,400 business systems including QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, NetSuite, Salesforce, Shopify, WooCommerce, and Amazon. A purpose-built partner tier gives firms a portal to manage multiple clients, monitor filing deadlines, and review returns across entities without switching between accounts.
Pricing is bespoke and sales-led. There is no public price list. Firms contact Avalara directly to scope a quote based on transaction volumes and the number of jurisdictions their clients operate in.
